For (Asia) urbanists, there is an exciting virtual symposium taking place this Friday 6 November 2020, organised by jointly by York University, Canada and by the Centre for the Study of Korea at the University of Toronto. The symposium, rescheduled from its original March 2020 schedule due to COVID-19, is to address ‘Making and Unmaking of the Speculative City: Urban Politics in South Korea’.

I am honoured to be invited to give the keynote address, which is titled, ‘Whither Progressive Urban Futures? Critical Reflections on the Politics of Temporality in Asia’. It builds upon my recent paper with the same title from the journal CITY, and will take place at 2 pm GMT. Subsequent paper sessions will happen later in the evening to accommodate speakers joining from Korea. Special thanks to Dr Hae Yeon Choo at the University of Toronto, who was instrumental to the organisation of this event and kindly invited me to make my own share of contributions.
