On 23 and 24 March 2018, I had the pleasure of visiting Tokyo to give two invited talks. On 23 March, the talk was at the Association of Japanese Geographers 2018 Spring Conference and was entitled “Unequal Cities of Spectacle in the Global East”. It was great to interact with urban geographers in Japan.
On 24 March, I gave the second talk entitled “Planetary Gentrification in the East Asian Context: Theory and Case Studies” (see flyer below for more information), which took place at the University of Tokyo that brought together an interesting group of urban scholars and professionals.
Many thanks to Professor Miyo Aramata for her kind invitation and for organising a site visit to the Olympic Games facilities in Tokyo that has been preparing for the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympic Games.
