Taiwan Film Festival 2007
– An announcement from the Taipei Representative Office in the UK

From the 16th to 29th of November, in collaboration with the Taipei Representative Office in the UK (TRO), the British Film Institute (BFI) will be hosting ‘Little Epiphanies’, a retrospective screening of the films of acclaimed Taiwanese director Tsai Ming-Liang, along with the Taiwan Film Festival 2007.

The BFI and TRO have carefully chosen six Taiwanese films of exceptional quality from 2006 and 2007 to be screened on the 17th and 18th of November. These films are:

* ‘Fish With a Smile’ by Jay Shih;
* ‘Sland Etude’ by Chen Huai-en;
* ‘Do Over’ by Cheng Yu-chieh;
* ‘My Football Summer’ by Yang Li-chou and Chang Rong-ji;
* ‘Keeping Watch’ by Cheng Fen-fen; and
* ‘The Song of Cha-Tian Mountain’ by Huang Yu-shan

Each work has its own unique character: subtle and moving animation for all ages; the stunning visuals of a road movie travelling down Taiwan’s east coast; tales of the fruition of youthful dreams; and even a documentary on a football team from Hualien county. These two days of cutting-edge Taiwanese cinema are not to be missed.

‘Little Epiphanies’ will include more than just screenings of the celebrated director’s work: on the evening of the 16th of November, following ‘I Don’t Want to Sleep Alone’ there will be a Q&A; with the director, while on the afternoon of the 16th Tsai Ming-liang will hold a discussion group with local students, chaired by the acclaimed film critic Tony Rayns.
